I'm Ciarán Treacy, a writer, researcher and recovering academic who works primarily on literature and popular music. As well as my ongoing project on the analysis of love songs (titled Songs of Love and published fortnightly on Fridays), you can expect reflections on games (video games and tabletop), films, TV and general contemporary culture. I strive to be thoughtful and rigorous in my analysis, without sacrificing readability.

In general, my philosophy is that these subjects, which generally fall under the popular and seemingly ephemeral, deserve to be taken seriously. Some songs are better, more interesting, more complex than others, but there's something to be gained from all of them. And the love song in particular, being such a popular form, contains so much of what you need to know about popular music, not to say popular culture more generally, that it's an endlessly fascinating mine.
